The ability to perform an AFAST ultrasound (Abdominal Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma, Triage, and Tracking) can be a valuable extension of the physical exam in an emergency. Mobile sonography also allows us to perform cystocentesis for sterile urine collection, and guided aspirates.

Our team has extensive experience in extractions for the treatment of stomatitis, treatment of oronasal fistulas and taking comprehensive skull radiographs for our exotic patients.

Our closed surgical suite is outfitted with modern equipment for AAHA-standard patient monitoring by Licensed Veterinary Technicians with previous training in specialty orthopedics - the gold standard in care. Our skilled veterinarians have experience performing many orthopedic surgeries that may traditionally require referral, including:
- fracture repair of the tibia, femur, radius
- external fixator placement
- femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHO) due to hip dislocation or hip dysplasia
- medial patellar luxation (MPL) correction
- limb amputation
- jaw fracture
- tail amputation or revision

One benefit to our hospital? We're capable of many surgeries outside of the scope of most general practice clinics. In addition to spay/neuter, our veterinarians are experienced in some of the the following procedures:
- enucleation (eye removal)
- cystotomy (bladder stone removal)

- perineal urethrostomy (PU)
- foreign body removal (gastrotomy, enterotomy, resection and anastomosis)

Much of exotic animal anesthetic risk is directly correlated with the skill, experience, and monitoring capabilities of a veterinary practice. The subject of sedation - in exotic pets in particular - is clouded with misinformation. Intubation via endoscopy, catheter placement in all species, and exotic-specific induction agents reduces anesthetic risk. Dr. Benson and his trained exotics team are capable of performing many of the same procedures as done in dogs and cats:
- reptile and mammal cystotomy
- fracture repair
- hemipene or cloacal prolapse
- amputation
- abdominal or coelomic explore
- aural abscess removal
- rabbit lateral bulla osteotomy
- ovariohysterectomy for gravid or eggbound avian/reptiles
